The good news is that an electric kart removes most of what maintenance used to mean. No oil, no filter, no spark plug, no carburettor to gum up over winter.

What remains is short and worth doing, because the failures it prevents are the expensive ones.

Every session, two minutes

Bolt check on the critical fasteners. Seat mount, steering column, wheel nuts, rear axle mount, motor mount. Not a full spanner check, just a hand check that nothing has gone loose.

Vibration plus repeated lateral load works fasteners loose faster on a drift kart than on almost anything else, because you are deliberately loading the frame sideways hundreds of times a session. Do this every session for the first three on a new kart, while everything beds in, then monthly.

Tire pressure, if your kart runs pneumatic front tires. Uneven front pressure makes the kart pull to one side under braking and changes how it initiates in each direction.

Look at the sleeves. Even wear is normal. Uneven wear side to side means you are only drifting one direction, which is worth correcting for your own skill as much as for the sleeves.

Cable and connector glance. Anything rubbing, anything hanging, any connector that is not fully seated.

After every session

Charge it. Even after a short session. Leaving a pack at low state of charge is the single most damaging habit in electric karting.

Let it cool first. Thirty minutes between riding and charging. Charging a hot pack ages it.

Wipe it down. A damp cloth and compressed air. Not a pressure washer, and not a hose. Water into a controller housing or a pack connector is a repair, not an inconvenience.

Monthly, fifteen minutes

Full torque check on the critical fasteners with a torque wrench, to the values in your manual. Do not guess: overtightening a bolt into a thin frame boss strips it, and stripped is worse than loose.

Wheel bearings. Lift each wheel and spin it. Smooth and quiet is fine. Grinding, rumbling or lateral play means the bearing is going.

Steering play. Rock the wheel with the kart stationary. New play since last month means a bushing or a tie rod end.

Brake check. Pad thickness if mechanical, and lever travel. If lever travel has increased, something has worn or a cable has stretched.

Sleeve rotation. Swap left to right to even out wear from riding one direction more than the other.

Frame inspection. Look at the rear axle mount and seat mount welds. You are looking for hairline cracks radiating from the weld toe. Catching one early is a weld repair. Catching it late is a frame.

Seasonally, or before storage

Battery to storage charge. Roughly 50 to 60%, not full and not empty, if the kart will sit more than a couple of weeks. Top it up every couple of months over winter.

Store above freezing if possible. Cold storage is survivable, cold charging is not. If the pack lives in an unheated garage, bring it inside to charge.

Full fastener check before the first ride of the season, not after.

Clean the controller area. Dust blankets act as insulation and controllers fail on heat. Compressed air, gently.

Sleeve set assessment. Better to start a season on fresh sleeves than to replace them three sessions in. Sets are on slide sleeve sets.

Things that go wrong, and what they usually mean

Anything from the last two rows means stop and inspect rather than finish the session.

What you should keep on hand

A spare set of sleeves, a charger, and the tools for the critical fasteners. Beyond that, buy parts when you need them, provided the manufacturer actually lists them. Ours are on spare parts.

The one habit that matters most

Charge after every session and store at half charge. Battery care is most of the value of a maintenance routine on an electric kart, because the pack is the expensive consumable and its lifespan is almost entirely determined by how it is treated between rides.
