Motor, controller, throttle, charger and pack, sized to work together
Motors. Brushless sensored units from 350 W to 3,000 W continuous, in 24V, 36V, 48V, 60V and 72V. Sensored matters for drifting specifically, because a sensorless controller can hesitate at very low rpm under load, which is exactly where you are mid-slide. Selection guidance in choosing a motor.
Controllers. Sized with headroom above the matching motor’s continuous draw, which is the difference between a kart that holds power through a session and one that cuts out at the ten minute mark.
Battery packs. 24V at $180, 36V at $260, 48V at $495, 72V at $795. All serviceable modules with a standard XT90 connector and an integrated BMS. Removable without cutting anything.
Chargers. Model-matched. Using a generic charger with the wrong voltage profile either never fills the pack or overfills it once.
Throttles, wiring, fuses, connectors and disconnects.

Because it is the honest test of whether a kart is a durable product or a countdown.
A seller who stocks a $40 controller has committed to that kart existing in three years. A seller whose only listing is the whole kart has committed to nothing, and when a controller dies in month seven you are buying a new machine. This is the pattern behind most of the disappointment in this category, and it is entirely visible before purchase if you know to look.
The three questions worth asking any drift kart seller, anywhere:
Slide sleeves. By design. 20 to 30 hours on smooth sealed concrete, 6 to 8 on rough chipseal. Rotate them left to right monthly, because most riders drift one direction more and wear one side faster, which gives a kart that slides well one way and badly the other.
Battery pack. Three to five years of regular riding, ending at roughly 70 to 80% of original capacity. Charging habits matter more than anything: charge after every session, store at half charge, never charge below freezing.
Wheel bearings. Lift each wheel and spin it. Grinding or lateral play means replacement.
Brake pads and cable. If lever travel has increased, something has worn or stretched.
Front tires. Overlooked, and they do half the work. The front provides the grip you steer against while the rear slides.
Controllers, on heat. If a kart runs fine for ten minutes and then goes soft or shuts off, and recovers after five minutes of sitting, that is thermal cutout rather than a battery problem. The fix is a properly sized controller and a mounting position with airflow, in that order.
Throttles, on water and grit ingress.
Connectors, on vibration. Strain relief on every run prevents most of this.

Getting one of those wrong is the fortnight-long delay that stops most builds. Full sizing rules are in complete drive kits and the per-session, monthly and seasonal checks are in the maintenance routine.

Motors, controllers, throttles, chargers, hubs and sleeves are generic enough to fit many karts. Check shaft diameter, keyway width, bolt pattern and system voltage against your machine before ordering.
Almost certainly the controller, undersized or poorly ventilated. If the kart recovers after five minutes of sitting still, it is thermal, not the battery.
